Taghazout, Morocco’s surf capital
A former fishing village, Taghazout has become one of the best-known surf destinations in Morocco, with renowned spots such as Anchor Point and a relaxed atmosphere all year round. It lies north of Agadir, about twenty kilometres along the coastal road.
The village is compact and easy to explore on foot, but the spots, beaches and neighbouring villages are spread along the coast. A car lets you pick the best spot each day without relying on shuttles.
Collecting your car in Taghazout
Choose “Taghazout” as the pickup place and give the exact address of your accommodation and its access instructions. The agency confirms handover on site, the time and any fee before you agree.
Arriving at Agadir Airport? Mention it: it can be easier to collect the car as soon as you land and drive straight to the village.
A car for a surf trip
Before choosing, count travellers, suitcases and equipment. A five-seat car does not guarantee room for boards: ask the agency what is possible and permitted before booking.
To move between spots, the Renault Clio 5 is nimble and easy to park; the Dacia Logan has more boot space for bags and gear.
Drives to take from Taghazout
To the south, Tamraght and Aourir are a few minutes away, then Agadir for an evening in town or the view from the Agadir Oufella kasbah. To the north, the coastal road runs along cliffs and beaches to Imsouane, another surf village known for its long wave.
Inland, Paradise Valley is reached by the road that leaves from Aourir. Set off early to enjoy the pools before the crowds, and check the weather and road conditions.
Driving and parking in Taghazout
The main road runs through the village and traffic is often heavy in season, with many pedestrians and surfers. Drive slowly, especially at dusk.
Parking can be limited near the centre: ask your accommodation where to leave the car, and leave nothing visible inside when you go surfing.
